Resolution Advocating for the Implementation of the Co-Curricular Advisory Board’s Recommendations

WHEREAS, “[t]he purpose of the Co-Curricular Advisory Board (CAB) was to explore the current infrastructure of our co-curricular experience at Washington University in St. Louis and assess how we can reimagine our processes, policies, and community development in order to embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion.”
WHEREAS, the Co-Curricular Advisory Board convened from October-November 2020 and developed recommendations by December 2020.
WHEREAS, Campus Life staff were involved in the entire Co-Curricular Advisory Board process.
WHEREAS, the University has not proven the sustainability of the Co-Curricular Advisory Board or the implementation of its recommendations, i.e. the University has not: provided regular updates about time-line oriented recommendations, maintained open communication with students, or implemented an oversight committee of Sorority and Fraternity Life (by Fall 2022).
WHEREAS, the University has not involved or received support from the stakeholders necessary to implement the Co-Curricular Advisory Board recommendations.
WHEREAS, Campus Life requested that the Co-Curricular Advisory Board recommend a 3-4 year outcome oriented plan.
WHEREAS, Campus Life wanted the Co-Curricular Advisory Board to reconvene in the spring of 2024 to evaluate the progress and then create another 3-4 plan.
WHEREAS, Campus Life’s suggestion allows for no members of the Co-Curricular Advisory Board to be students at the University when progress is evaluated.
RESOLVED, the University must implement a Co-Curricular Advisory Board Oversight Committee by the end of the Spring 2022 semester to meet weekly during the Fall 2022 semester, and, if not all goals are accomplished during Fall 2022, during the Spring 2023 semester.
RESOLVED, the Co-Curricular Advisory Board Oversight Committee will be jointly organized and facilitated by members of Student Union and Student Affairs.
RESOLVED, the Co-Curricular Advisory Board Oversight Committee must include members of Student Union, Sorority and Fraternity Life, Student Affairs, and Campus Life.
RESOLVED, representatives from the Congress of the South 40, TRUTH, LIVE, Title IX, RSVP, the Center for Diversity and Inclusion, Human Resources, the Office of Student Success, and the Office of Student Conduct are strongly encouraged to participate in the Co-Curricular Advisory Board Oversight Committee as many recommendations require collaboration across University organizations and student groups.
RESOLVED, the University must be transparent with the student body about what Co-Curricular Advisory Board recommendations will not be implemented and why.
RESOLVED, the University must provide monthly updates to the student body regarding the progress of implementing Co-Curricular Advisory Board recommendations during the 2022-2023 academic year.
