Today, January 29th, 2024, Erin McGlothin, the Vice-Dean of Undergraduate Affairs and a Professor of German and Jewish Studies announced that WashU will begin to offer online summer courses. These courses will give students greater flexibility to attain academic credits while simultaneously pursuing other endeavors over the summers, such as working or interning. This is particularly notable as though two of the courses are 100-level (entry-level) courses, the majority of the courses are advanced-level courses (300-level or up).
As the letter directly mentions the creation of these courses to allow the simultaneous pursuit of both academic credit and other summer endeavors, it can be presumed that these courses will be asynchronous.
The five-week courses are “L32 Poli Sci 101B 21 American Politics,” and “L33 Psych 3401 21 Biological Psychology,” while the eight-week courses are “L48 Anthro 190B 31 Introduction to Archaeology,” “L38 Span 353 31 Medical Spanish,” and “L13 Writing 314 31 Argumentation.”
All of these courses will count towards both major and minor credit, as well as for general credit. These courses will be open for registration on March 27th, 2024.
